Ten things we can do for our Lord and the least among us.

1. Serve: Our Lord's time on this earth was all about service. Service to you and me. How can we in return serve him? By serving the least among us, we serve Our Lord Jesus Christ. 2. Volunteer: Help ROL at our monthly IHS breakfast or monthly Lighthouse evening meal. Volunteer to help the Hawaii Foodbank, Catholic Charities Hawaii or many other worthwhile local organizations. 3. Love: To love another person is to see the face of God. Any service we are involved in must be done as an act of love. Unconditional love for our Lord Jesus Christ and our Brothers and Sisters in need. Our church is not about personal avoidance of hell, but salvation for all souls by our faith, acts, love and prayers; bringing souls to Christ is our goal. 4. Care: If we are truly members of one holy, catholic and apostolic church in the Body of Our Lord Jesus Christ, then we need to care for and about the least among us. We need to act on that caring. Even if it is just in small acts, unseen to all but God, we need to care and to act. 5. Feed: Bring non-perishable food to mass for gifts to be distributed to the hungry. Even one can or box is appreciated. Buy an extra fast food meal or sandwich and give it to the brother or sister digging through a trash can. We all see them. 6. Clothe: Give the clothes you no longer wear, but is in good condition, to organizations that distribute it to the poor. Bring them to the Church and we'll distribute them to the poor. 7. Visit: Do you know any older persons that live alone? Any one in a hospital or home that no one visits? Visit them. Take them something to eat. Read to them. Listen to their stories. Drive them to the store, doctors, and our church. Pray with them. Wash them. Care for them. Love them. 8. Inspire: Invite your family and friends to join you in service. Create your own social service projects and get others involved. Share your ideas and projects with us. 9. Vote: Vote for candidates that support Catholic values and beliefs, like Pro Life. Check out http://www.procon.org for information on candidate's positions. 10. Pray: Pray for our brothers and sisters in need; the homeless, the hungry, the vulnerable, the sick, the lonely, the addicted and the incarcerated. Pray in your room. Pray with your family. Pray with your friends. Pray with those in need. Prayer is a powerful tool.
Francis, dirty and emaciated, danced a fool’s dance of love. Paul, proud and pious, was blinded by the truth of love. Damien, with calloused hands, washed the putrid sores with love. Dorothy, with cigarette in hand, fed those we could not love. Peter, lonesome wanderer, spoke, spoke, and spoke of love. Mary, silent and watchful, was pierced by the sword of love. That same sword that pierced her Son, redeeming love. I want to dance a fool’s dance of love. I want my blind eyes opened to God’s total love. I want to wash away the putrid smell of sin, my sin, your sin. I want to feed on the broken bread. I want to drink the blood poured out. I want to hear truth of love spoken from the mouth of saints. Dirty, rejected, earthly saints, who gave all they could for love. I want you with me - I need you with me. I can’t jump into the deep deep sea of love by myself. Jump with me – dance with me – sing with me – serve with me. We won’t be alone. There will be a great number of Holy Fools that have jumped before. To keep us afloat.

THE PRESIDENTIAL PRAYER TEAM

As the largest intercessory prayer ministry for our country -- we must take a stand now and add our voices in support of open prayer for our country. Today is an incredible time in our nation's history. The very public mention of God, of praying in public, and of the role of Almighty God in our government and country are being stripped away. Consider this: U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb last week issued the decision that the 1988 federal law designating a National Day of Prayer in the United States is unconstitutional. President Obama would not formally observe last year's National Day of Prayer at the White House. (He did not cancel the National Day of Prayer in Washington as it has been rumored.) We believe America has been successful because we, as a people and nation, have honored God, we have made Him preeminent in our lives, and He has been recognized within our government Today, right now, The Presidential Prayer Team urges you, our team members, friends and all Christians to act: WHAT YOU CAN DO 1. GET INVOLVED in this year's National Day of Prayer on MAY 6. There will be prayer vigils in Washington, D.C. on the steps on the U.S. Capitol, at the Washington Monument, and at the ellipse near the Jefferson Memorial. Thousands of other local gatherings are planned in cities and communities across our great land. 2. ADD YOUR NAME to the DECLARATION FOR PRAYER petition. Join us in telling President Obama that Christian prayer -- prayer to no other God but the God of the Bible -- is vital to the present and future of our nation. The petition urges the Obama Administration to immediately appeal the recent court ruling which struck down our rights to a day of national prayer. SIGN HERE —>The Declaration For Prayer-Petition Please take 3 minutes right now by clicking the above link and adding your name to the DECLARATION FOR PRAYER petition and forward this email to as many Christians as possible. Thanks to everybody who helped obtain, prepare, and serve the food at the Lighthouse Homeless shelter tonight. It was a great success. It’s nice to have a lot of the old regulars and also to see some new faces. We also served breakfast at the IHS this morning. Matt, our parishioner in charge, requested 12 people to help serve at both the Women’s and Children’s Shelter and the Men’s Shelter. We only had 4 sign up so we could only do the Men’s Shelter. The IHS serving is now open to the entire parish. Look for the signup sheet on the bulletin board outside the parish kitchen towards the end of the month and sign up to help. God bless you all.
Great job on the R.O.L. blog site! I love looking at the picture of the worship area with the font with the Easter decoration. What I am going to say now may sound strange but I just noticed something while admiring that photo. On the koa desk where the lectors read (I apologize for not being able to remember the name for it), I keep seeing an image of a female face. Is it just me???

Jubilee Mass

On Saturday, May 1, 1030 am, at the Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa, Bishop Larry Silva will celebrate a Mass honoring our priests and religious sisters and brothers who will be celebrating significant anniversaries of ordination or profession. All are welcome to be present at this celebration to congratulate them, to pray with them, and to pray for them. Two Jubilarians that many of us know are Fr Michael - Benedictine Monastery (60-years) and Sr Laura - Daughters of St Paul (25-years).
Damien de Veuster I need all Faithful, regardless of Church or Faith, to come to the Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace on Sunday at 1pm for a Prayer Service. The Mayor will be there too. We will come together as a Community to reflect and pray for solutions to our homeless problems in downtown. Let's start living our Church...become active, and make a difference. Thanks and Vivat Jesus. John.

Congratulations to our Confirmation class of 2010. Your journey is just beginning.

From the desk of Father Paul, April 25, 2010

Today, April 25th, is “World Day of Prayer for Vocations”. It is also Good Shepherd Sunday. The Gospel reading for this Sunday, from John, shows Jesus, the Good Shepherd speaking of His sheep: He knows them and He gives them eternal life; they hear His voice and they follow Him. How many of the sheep, Jesus’ flock, are not listening to His voice today? There are many. Recall last week’s Gospel when Jesus gave Peter the opportunity to offset the triple denial. Peter proclaimed his love for Jesus three times. Jesus’ reply to each affirmation was “feed my lambs”, “tend my sheep”, and “feed my sheep”. He then added “follow me”. We all have a role to play in tending and feeding God’s flock, but there is such a great need in the Church today for men and women to commit themselves to Christ in the roles as Priests and Religious. Please pray that more of our young men and women will answer the call of the Holy Spirit and answer the call of Jesus to “follow me”. We should be praying for vocations every day, but please, make this a special day of prayer for vocations. A new website has been set up by the U.S. Bishops for vocations. It will be launched today (April 25th) www.ForYourVocation.org. The website is meant as a resource for those discerning a vocation, parents, educators and youth leaders. Please see the poster on the bulletin board by the sacristy and visit the website.

Mortgage Burning Party pictures needed

Mortgage Burning Party As Father Paul announced several weeks ago, we are officially DEBT FREE! We have been looking forward to this moment for 15 years. It is finally here, and we’ve decided to have a parish celebration. In order to give everyone time to prepare for a fun party, the date has been tentatively set for Saturday, August 28, 2010. We will put together a photo history with pictures we have on hand, but we would also welcome any photos that you may have at home. Please drop off any pictures you would be willing to share at the parish office before May 15. Label them clearly if you’d like them returned. There is a lot to do to prepare. We want to look and be our best that day. If you are willing to help plan, clean, paint or otherwise prepare for the party, please contact Mary Bretschneider (391-4884), Lynn Aninzo (676-8159) or Liz Shippen (497-7567). We are making a list of all that should be done before this Mortgage Burning Party Open House. As he mentioned last week, Father Paul will soon be taking a “show-of-hands” vote after Mass to help determine the food budget—catered or potluck. Think about it . Mark your calendar. This should be fun!

"Psalms for Healing" is a collection of Psalms used for the purpose of reflection and experiencing His healing presence. Please use these Psalms for your meditation and to respond to God's word and enhance your prayer time with God. May you find peace in His Presence. Wesley has been involved with the healing ministry of Jesus Christ and facilitating healing groups for many years, so if you have a need for healing prayer please feel free to send an email(and a short description)via the website. You can leave your name or feel free to leave it anonymous, Jesus knows who you are regardless. "I will personally pray for your request and also bring your request to our healing team to my church, "Resurrection of Our Lord." I only ask that you write back to us to inform us of a healing or if healing prayer is no longer necessary. A testimony of healing would be greatly appreciated to encourage the faith of others."

Aloha PSM Network! This Sunday, the Diocese will be hosting an Inter-Faith Prayer Service at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace from 1:00-1:30 PM. “I was a stranger, You welcomed me” is our prayerful commitment to bringing the community together, united in compassion and care as we give witness to Jesus for our dear neighbor. The different homeless programs, primarily those in Honolulu, are being invited to attend this service of reconciliation and recommitment. Yes, the River Street Residences (Housing First Project) is what brought us to the table, but we are truly at the “let go and let God” crossroad which is why we need your prayers and your presence. Please share the attached flyer and information sheet with your ministry partners and invite them to come along. Just so that you know, Mayor Hannemann will be participating in our service. Timely, for sure, but we trust there are NO COINCIDENCES WITH GOD. We have invited members of the Chinatown community and pray that they will accept our invitation. After the service, we plan to take a walk down Beretania to River Street – to the site of the proposed Housing First Project. We put our trust in God that whomever is meant to live there (the site of such fearful contention), will indeed be provided a place to call “home.” We will say a prayer of hope and peace and then disburse. Won’t you join us for this prayerful time of reconciliation and peaceful unity? If you have any questions, please call Sister in the office at 203-6734 or my cell at 226-3678. Blessings! Iwie and Sr. Roselani

Do you know where the food goes that is collected at the side of the altar before mass or during the collection of gifts? It is taken by our parish members to 2 other parish food pantries to be distributed to those in need. Those parishes are Sacred Hearts in Waianae and Our Lady of Good Counsel in Pearl City. Sacred Hearts feeds about 90 families every other week. Our Lady of Good Counsel feeds about 150 families a week. Alice, one of the directors of the OLOGC pantry, told me that they often run out of food and that ROL has been a blessing, saving them many times with our donations. These are just 2 of the many parishes that maintain food and toiletry supplies for the needy in their communities. Although Resurrection of the Lord does not maintain its own food pantry, it is still fulfilling the request of our Lord Jesus Christ to "feed the hungry" by collecting and delivering food to those parishes that do. This is the very essence of our Catholic Social teaching and our faith.
Entertaining Angels Product Description Dorothy Day is no saint. She lives hard, makes mistakes, endures the consequences. But the unquenchable fire burning within her cannot be contained. Dorothy wants to make a difference. During the Depression, she vows to house the homeless, feed the hungry, tend the sick. Easily said. Not easily done when her total finances amount to 97 cents in a battered canister. Yet Dorothy persists, walking on frequently stormy waters of faith. Popular stars and important themes combine in this compelling true story of the "American Mother Teresa," filmed by Paulist Pictures (Romero) from a script by ER writer and executive producer John Wells. Moira Kelly plays Day, the impassioned New York journalist who launched the activist newspaper "Catholic Worker" and put the words she wrote into controversial action. Martin Sheen, Melinda Dillon and Brian Keith join Kelly in this moving saga of a faith not just believed, but lived.
ATTENTION!!! – COMING SOON!! – PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!!! Tues., April 27th - 7:00 – 9:00 pm. A 2 day Film retreat called “Ongoing Conversion” using the Movie: “ Entertaining Angels” The Dorthy Day story Presented by Sr. Laura- Daughters of St. Paul Wed., April 28th – 7-9pm Entertaining Angels Part 2 Wed., May 5th. 7 pm history of the Rosary using a fantastic DVD call “Rosary Stars” presented by Sr. Laura – of the Daughters of St. Paul

In today’s Gospel we hear our Lord asking “do you love me?” and saying “feed my lambs”. Now more than ever, the hungry need our help. Mass layoffs have caused hardships for many, and the Hawaii Food Bank is seeing a considerable increase in the amount of people they serve. Their mission is to provide food so that no one goes hungry.

And so in response, the current RCIA class has decided to support the Hawaii Food Bank by participating in their annual “Food Drive”. Starting next week April 24/25, the RCIA will have decorated bags available for you to take home, fill with non-perishable food, and bring back the following weekend May 1/2.

We ask you to please join us in this effort to respond to God’s call to “FEED HIS LAMBS”. Thank you and God bless.

We need your help

Got announcements? No, problem! Thanks to Richard Pabingwit and the Boy Scouts of Troop 76, our parish now has beautiful new bulleting boards. These bulletin boards are weather-proof and built securely by the scouts and adult leaders of Troop 76. When Richard was trying to come up with an idea for his Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project, he thought of nowhere else but his Church because he wanted to give back to this wonderful community of faith that had given him so much. He spent months planning on gathering materials, on how to build strong and beautiful bulletin boards, and how to use the leadership skills he learned as a scout in order to complete the project as planned. During the process of construction, some unforeseeable events took place but the boys took care of them coolly. For example, they realized that the two olive trees that overhang the bulletin boards had to be trimmed. No problem! Right away, they were up on a ladder and worked as gardeners. Then, it rained hard at one point and this enormous dog appeared from nowhere and started playing happily with mud around the bulletin boards. No problem! The boys got down on their hands and knees and cleaned up the area. The finished bulletin boards blend in extremely well with the surrounding landscape, showcasing their pride and dedication. Our parish is grateful for the hard work the boys and the adult leaders were willing to put in to build this excellent tool for our communication link. Thank you very much!

There are many highlights that the Parish celebrates over the course of the liturgical year. Not only Christmas and Easter, but every Sunday celebration is (should be) very special to God's people. Then, so is the celebration of the Sacraments, especially when being received for the first time. Over the next several weeks, we will be celebrating the conferral of the Sacrament of Confirmation and Eucharist. On Saturday, April 24th, Bishop Larry Silva will be here to celebrate the 5:15 pm Mass and confer the Sacrament of Confirmation upon 22 of our young people. This is a celebration for these 22 young men and women who have worked hard for two years learning and practicing their faith in preparation for this moment. It is also a celebration for the entire parish family of ROL as we welcome them into the fullness of the life of the Holy Spirit and the life of the Church. I hope that all who usually attend the 5:15 pm Mass will not stay away because it will be a bit longer than usual. Come and celebrate and rejoice with them. On May 22nd, also at the 5:15 pm Mass, we will celebrate our young children's reception of the Eucharist for the first time.
Celebration of Life. In 1531 the appearance of Our Lady of Guadalupe to Juan Diego on Tepeyac hill near Mexico City ended the era of mass sacrifice of human life (including children) to appease the Aztec Gods, and ushered in the age of Christianity with mass conversions of the indigenous peoples. In our modern era, children are once again sacrificed; this time to the gods of convenience and lifestyle through the practice of abortion. We in the Catholic Church are opposed to this practice of infanticide and promote life saving alternatives to abortion. Come join us on the lanai after all Masses on the weekend of May 1st and 2nd as we celebrate life with Our Lady of Guadalupe. We will have information from our Life Issues Ministries, religious and handcrafted Mother's Day gifts for sale, women's health information, ROL - Our Lady of Guadalupe t-shirts, and an outdoor candle lighting shrine to "Our Lady". All donations from this celebration go to the Mary Jane Foundation of Hawaii Catholic Charities. Come celebrate with us.

From the Desk of Father Paul

WE DID IT!!! We have paid off our debt. This week, with the help of our Easter collection, we sent in the final payment and are now debt free.

Congratulations to all and thank you to all. The final payment was from current Church funds and we did not have to touch our savings account.

Please don't stop checking the "debt payment" space on your envelopes. From now on, that money will be put into our "new building fund" which we already have with the diocese. Mahalo to everyone for the efforts over all these years.

Desperately Needed/Wanted: Persons willing to share/volunteer their gift of cross stitching for the benefit of our 22 teenage confirmands in their reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation. All supplies provided; need only your talent and time. Please contact Liz Shippen at 497-7567 or leave a message at the church office (676-4700).

HB 444, the "Civil Unions" Bill, would extend the same rights, benefits, protections, and responsibilities of spouses in a marriage to partners in a civil union. In the eyes of state law, both same-sex and opposite-sex civil unions would equal marriage. It would also recognize civil partnerships from other states.
This bill is a "legislative stepping stone" to same sex marriage; and, in fact, is same sex marriage in disguise. The Hawaii Supreme Court has ruled that our Marriage Law does not violate the equal protection clause, and that Hawaii's law limiting marriage to "a man and a woman" is constitutionally valid. Same-sex couples already have hospital visitation rights, medical proxies, and inheritance protection provided for under our current domestic partnership bill.
The Catholic Diocese is asking us to do the following this week:
1) Call, e-mail or even visit House members to thank them for standing firm.
2) Call House Speaker Say at 808-586-6100; or e-mail at repsay@Capitol.hawaii.gov
3) Call Vice Speaker Magaoay at 808-586-6380; or e-mail at repmagaoay@Capitol.hawaii.gov.
" Thank them for standing firm against HB 444
" Let them know that you are praying for them
" Let them know that you appreciate all the dedication and the stress they are going through.
If we fail to let our feelings known, we will get the legislation we deserve.
Gotta go boot up my hard drive. Aloha---- Mary B
