Do you know where the food goes that is collected at the side of the altar before mass or during the collection of gifts? It is taken by our parish members to 2 other parish food pantries to be distributed to those in need. Those parishes are Sacred Hearts in Waianae and Our Lady of Good Counsel in Pearl City. Sacred Hearts feeds about 90 families every other week. Our Lady of Good Counsel feeds about 150 families a week. Alice, one of the directors of the OLOGC pantry, told me that they often run out of food and that ROL has been a blessing, saving them many times with our donations. These are just 2 of the many parishes that maintain food and toiletry supplies for the needy in their communities. Although Resurrection of the Lord does not maintain its own food pantry, it is still fulfilling the request of our Lord Jesus Christ to "feed the hungry" by collecting and delivering food to those parishes that do. This is the very essence of our Catholic Social teaching and our faith.
